Josh Garza and Nick Huanca, two 17 year-old Leland and Grey students and the founders of GAW High-Speed Internet Services began their technology career by building and selling computers out of their basement as Optima Computers. Optima Computers, which was based in Brattleboro, Vermont, went on to become the area’s leading computer sales and service retailer, satisfying the needs of residents and businesses throughout Vermont’s Windham County.
As a technology visionary, Josh, living in Townsend, VT began to recognize that there was a limited communications infrastructure in communities throughout Vermont. Together, the duo began by providing “higher-speed” dial up access, offering Internet services to rural residents that did not have access at all and would likely never see the type of services provided by traditional wire line services; such as, cable or DSL.
As their knowledge evolved, they began to realize the most effective way to reach communities and residents living on the last mile was through the use of high-speed wireless Internet access, a technology that was very much in it’s infancy.
In 2005, Great Auk Wireless was founded to provide high-speed wireless Internet access primarily to rural residents living on the last mile. The GAW “test bed” was in Salisbury, Vermont serving the community that surrounded Lake Dunmore, an area that sees a high level of tourism business during the warmer months. The high-speed offering help create value to campgrounds and homes with access available in a remote part of Vermont, something thought impossible at the time.
Since that time, Great Auk Wireless was incorporated as GAW High-Speed Internet Services. The company has provided services to more than 30,000 users throughout New England, covering more than 3,000 square miles, with a product mix that includes fixed wireless solutions, including point-to-multiple point networks, point-to-point dedicated networks, and WiFi solutions through its GAWSpot WiFi services brand and a free community WiFi model available in towns like Newport and Brattleboro, Vermont.
Whether a fixed wireless solution or a WiFi hotspot, GAW High-Speed Internet is New England’s premiere end-to-end solution for creating a wireless communication infrastructure where none exists or as an alternate to traditional wire line services "such as" cable and DSL. GAW High-Speed Internet services have mastered the art of wireless. To find out more, call us today.
